Kosiski Rebounds For Top 10 Finish at Harlan
Andrew Kosiski and Team 53 took on the half mile speedway at the Shelby County Fairgrounds on Saturday night for round nine of the Malvern Bank Super Late Model Racing (SLMR) Series. After a self inflicted mistake, Andrew was able to grab a top ten finish in the end of the 25 lap main event. (CK Imaging photo)
Qualifying time trials seen Kosiski lay down the 8th fastest lap with a time of 17.887 seconds. The All Makes Collision Center, Certified Transmission, Nebraska Bullnose, 4Seams Academy No. 53 then lined up outside of the second row in the eight lap heat race where passing was difficult. Andrew was able to advance one spot to finish third, but in post race inspection was found to be illegal for not having engine restrictors in the restrictor plate.
“The last race we ran with this car was at Huset’s and their (Tri-State Late Model Series) rules don’t require you to run the restrictors.” explained Kosiski “Really the car was worse by not having them in, our gearing was off and the idle was bad. We were pretty set on putting them back in for the feature at Huset’s that we talked about it enough that we thought we did. The tech crew did their job and we really shot ourselves in the foot.”
Instead of starting second row of the main event, AK lined up tail end of the 23 car field since there was no last chance qualifier. At the drop of the green Andrew was able to slice through the field to the 15th position by the time the caution flew on lap three. After the restart Kosiski fell in line and patiently picked off cars one by one as the top side of the track was dominant. The race went green the last 22 circuits and passing two cars in the last four laps Andrew came across the line in the 10th position.
