Kosiski Takes Runner Up Honors at I-80 Speedway

Andrew Kosiski and Team 53 made the short drive to I-80 Speedway Friday night for the season opening NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series event. When it was all said and done Kosiski brought home a second place podium finish.

After finishing runner up in his heat race qualifier, the redraw and invert would line AK up in the third row for the 20 lap main event. At the drop of the green Andrew was on the move forward as he advanced two spots on lap one, by the end of the second circuit he was in the runner up spot and on lap three the All Makes Collision Center, Certified Transmission, Kosiski Auto Parts, Super Clean No. 53 was challenging for the lead. Kosiski and Bill Leighton Jr. raced side by side for a half dozen laps but Andrew could not get the traction coming off of turn four to complete the pass. Andrew finally lost ground entering turn one on lap eight giving Leighton the full advantage. The two maintained separation until lap traffic came into play and Andrew quickly closed the deficit again. It would get down to a few car lengths but the yellow waved on lap 18 giving the leaders a two lap shoot out to settle it. However Leighton nailed the restart and AK completed the last two circuits in his tire tracks to finish 2nd. (Buck Monson photo)
