Kosiski Ends Malvern Bank Season with Wild Roll at Lakeside
Andrew Kosiski and Team 53 went into the final weekend of Super Late Model Racing (SLMR) Series competition with expectations of finishing off the season on a high note, but a lap 18 restart at the Lakeside Speedway proved disastrous as the No. 53 went air born and tumbled multiple times down the front stretch at the big half mile. Qualifying time trials seen the All Makes Collision Center , Certified Transmission , Kosiski Auto Parts, Super Clean , No. 53 set fifth fastest time, lining him outside of row two in the eight lap heat race. Andrew was able to hold his ground until the final lap where he passed Jake Neal to finish third; this result gave Kosiski the outside row two starting spot in the 25 lap main event.
At the drop of the green flag the race was to get to the bottom as the preferred groove was right around the hub. AK tried his luck on the top side and after getting into the wall on lap three he fell from 4th to 9th. The race went into a long green flag run with Andrew maintaining his position in line. After losing a position on lap 15 the yellow flag would wave on lap 18 setting up a restart with 7 laps to go. This is when all hell broke loose as two cars entered the spin cycle just past the flag stand causing evasive maneuvers by the field; with the track being blocked Kosiski slowed his car as he entered the wreckage, but at the same time he was hit in the drivers door sending the car into a violent tumble down the front straightaway. The car caught major air and fell hard to the ground each time. The safety crew reached the car helping Andrew exit his destroyed machine. Making the trip back to the pit area in the ambulance he would be released and was not transported to the hospital.
The team returned to Omaha Friday night and will skip the season ending Hoker Trucking Series race in Moberly, Missouri on Saturday.
Huge thank you to Mars Race Cars for building a durable chassis that kept the driver safe.
